ICEMVO

The Icelandic Medicines Verification Organisation (ICEMVO) is a new organisation set up to protect Icelandic patients from the threat of falsified medicines being supplied through legitimate channels. The Icelandic name is Lyfjaauðkenni ehf.

To protect patient safety a catalogue of measures was introduced through Directive 2011/62/EU to prevent falsified medicines from entering the legal supply chain. The EU Commission has published additional technical details for the further design of security features with the Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/161 in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The Icelandic Medicines Verification Organisation (ICEMVO) is a non-profit organisation representing the different stakeholders, both the Marketing Authorisation Holders and Distribution stakeholders, involved in securing the legal supply chain from falsified medicines in Iceland. The ICEMVO is responsible for implementing and managing the Medicines Verification System in Iceland.
